Local Interest - Adaptive Water Sports Day

Community Inclusive Recreation is a 16 year old non profit
in Battle Creek which offers recreation, social, wellness
and independent living programs for individuals with, and
without disabilities. All our programs are accessible for
people of all abilities. If you'd like, you can check out
our website at www.cirfun.com Our participants come from a
pretty broad area, but can provide transportation to those
living in Calhoun County.
Our Adaptive Water Sports Day has become a real tradition
for our participants - giving many of them the opportunity to enjoy
the water sports world. With the help of Kentwood Parks and
Recreation Dept., we offer adaptive equipment which allows
people of all abilities to water ski, boat, tube, etc. Area
lake residents have also volunteered their services for many years and take
our group boating and tubing on their personal boats. We
also offer supervised (lifeguarded) swimming during this time.
The event also features a picnic lunch and lawn games.
We charge $20.00 to offset the cost of the adaptive
equipment rental, food, and staff. $15.00 for the day for
those under our scholarship program.
As far as volunteerism goes - we are always in need.
Volunteers for the event this year will be needed to bring
their boats to pull tubes, etc (owners to drive), run lawn
games, serve food, turn boats in the water, and basically
interact with our group and have fun! It's a busy day, but
well worth the effort.
